COVID 19: Public Health Guidance for Childcare Settings March 24, 2020

If you’re ill – stay at home.
Within childcare settings, children and staff will often have influenza or other respiratory viruses with symptoms similar to COVID-19 (i.e., influenza). For this reason, all children and staff who are ill with fever, have cold, influenza or infectious respiratory symptoms of any kind need to stay home. If children and staff have symptoms, self-isolate for a minimum of 10 days from the onset of symptoms and until symptoms have completely resolved. If you are at all unsure of your status, the BC Centre for Disease Control’s online assessment tool can help you assess whether you should stay home or not.
Six steps to proper handwashing
- Wet hands with warm running water.
- Apply a small amount of liquid soap. Antibacterial soap is not required.
- Rub hands together for at least 20 seconds (sing the ABC’s). Rub palms, backs of hands, between fingers and under nails and creating a lather.
- Rinse off all soap with running water.
- Dry hands with a clean, disposable towel.
- Discard the used towel in the waste container.
Children should wash their hands…
- When they arrive at the centre and before they go home
- Before eating and drinking
- After a diaper change, using the toilet
- After playing outside or handling pets
- After sneezing or coughing into hands
- Whenever hands are visibly dirty.
Infant Toddler
During April we continued the theme of Spring , talking about Butterflies etc. We also celebrated Easter through songs and making Easter bunnies and other crafts.
In May we will celebrate Mothers’s day. Watch out for the cards coming home.
We will also continue the theme of Friendship learning about kindness and caring for each other.
Daycare Montessori
In April we celebrated Easter by making posters for the classroom and some craft going home.
Again we will celebrate Mother’s Day making cards and gifts . Look out for the poster boards and windows in the classrooms.
The theme of the month is Stay Safe and Healthy :
- We will be encouraging children to stay safe and healthy doing various indoor and outdoor activities during the day.
- We will also continue to work on the six steps of hand washing as suggested by the Ministry.
- Please encourage children to bring healthy and nutritious lunch and snacks at the center.
- We will be also encourage children to drink water through out the day.
- Feel free to talk to Gulzar or the staff if you any questions.
